Rolling

Define sheet, plate, strip or foil requirements before comparing mill and stockholder offers.

Start with the delivered scope

Rolling reduces thickness to produce flat aluminum products. Product form and the proposed material condition should be specified separately.

Build the requirement

Supply format
Choose sheets, cut plates, slit strip or coils. Record the quantity in an agreed unit and whether it is a total order or a repeat batch.
Dimensions
State thickness, width and length where applicable. For coils, also request the proposed core, outside size and weight range so handling can be checked.
Material
Keep alloy designation, temper and the applicable product specification together. Ask about permitted substitutions before an offer is accepted.
Surface and edges
Describe visible-face requirements, protective film, edge condition and acceptable handling marks. Explain any later forming or finishing operation.
Delivery and evidence
Request identification linking supplied material to the agreed inspection documents. Clarify who performs slitting, leveling, cutting and packing.

Questions for the supplier

  1. Question 1Is the offer mill production, stock material or a processing service using buyer-supplied stock?
  2. Question 2How are batch identification and document references retained after cutting or slitting?
  3. Question 3Which dimensions and surface requirements are covered by the quoted acceptance criteria?

Avoid these comparison gaps

  • Do not compare a coil price with a cut-sheet price without accounting for the conversion scope.
  • Nominal thickness alone does not describe alloy, temper, flatness or surface condition.
  • Check receiving equipment and pack dimensions before ordering a coil format.
