Surface Finishing & Testing
Connect surface appearance, exposure conditions and inspection to a defined finish request.
Start with the delivered scope
Surface treatment is a distinct part of an aluminum component specification. Appearance requirements and the relevant inspection scope need to be agreed together.
AlumHome buyer checklist · Updated 2 October 2026. Use this to prepare questions; confirm the actual engineering and acceptance requirements with the responsible parties.
Build the requirement
- Use and exposure
- Describe indoor or outdoor use, handling, cleaning and the surfaces that will be visible. Ask the finish provider to assess suitability for the actual requirement.
- Finish identity
- Name the proposed anodizing, coating or other treatment. Record color, gloss, texture and sample reference where applicable.
- Geometry and masking
- Identify surfaces that must remain untreated, contact marks that may be acceptable and dimensional interfaces that need attention after treatment.
- Acceptance method
- Agree the sample, viewing or measurement method and the applicable standard and edition. Request test scope and reports specifically rather than simply asking for a certificate.
- Provider evidence
- If a quality label is required, verify the named production site, current status and relevant scope with the issuing body. A general company badge is not enough.
Questions for the supplier
- Question 1Which treatment site will process the actual order?
- Question 2How will approved samples and any allowed variation be recorded?
- Question 3Which tests relate to the finished product, and which records relate only to the processing line?
Avoid these comparison gaps
- A color name alone does not define the complete finish acceptance criteria.
- QUALICOAT specifications concern architectural coated products; do not assume that label covers every aluminum finish.
- Protect treated surfaces during packing and downstream operations.
