Define what the supplier actually delivers
Coil dimensions and winding
Give thickness, slit width, permitted variation, inner diameter, maximum outside diameter and acceptable coil mass. Specify winding direction and any handling constraints on the receiving line.
Edges and feed performance
Identify burr-sensitive edges, flatness or camber concerns and any edge treatment. Ask how these requirements will be measured and reported rather than relying on an unspecified standard slit finish.
Packing and traceability
Agree coil identification, separation, lifting orientation and protection against damage during transport. State whether a mixed batch or spliced material is acceptable and how coil-specific documents are matched to labels.
Questions that change the quotation
- Slitting scope
- Ask whether the supplier produces master coil, performs slitting or resells stock. Identify the site responsible for your final width and edge condition.
- Price basis
- Compare the same delivered quantity and width. Record minimum slitting charges, packaging, weight basis and any permitted quantity variation.
- Trial approval
- Before a repeat supply agreement, define the trial coil, receiving-line observations and who approves continuation.
