Before you compare supplier offers
Actual dimensions, not just a label
For round products, give outside diameter and wall thickness. For shaped products, include cross-section and corner geometry. Define finished length, end condition, units and critical mating dimensions. A nominal designation needs its governing specification.
Manufacturing and finishing scope
Ask the supplier to identify its proposed manufacturing route and any relevant seams or joints. State bends, holes, threads and end forming as finished-part requirements. Obtain written approval for any proposed alternative.
Service conditions and evidence
Identify structural, decorative or fluid-carrying use. Pressure, temperature and structural service require review against the applicable specification by qualified personnel. This checklist does not approve a pressure rating, bend radius or universal tolerance.
Sample approval and repeat orders
- Approval record
- Agree the drawing revision, sample identifiers, checks performed and who authorizes production. A sample photograph alone does not establish dimensional acceptance.
- Comparable costs
- Separate material, tooling, processing, inspection, packing and transport charges. Ask what changes on a repeat order and how delivery timing is confirmed.
- Company role
- Confirm whether the contracting entity manufactures, processes or resells the product. Request evidence for the operations relevant to your order; directory presence is not an audit.
- Unresolved fields
- List missing information and proposed alternatives explicitly before approving the quotation.
