Prepare the next conversation

Define what the supplier actually delivers

  • Preform or finished component?

Separate the forging drawing from the final machined drawing. Identify the supplied state, machining allowance, critical interfaces and which entity is responsible for later operations.

  • Manufacturing and material condition

Ask the supplier to describe the proposed forging route and specified heat-treatment condition. Record departures for approval; do not assume one route, alloy or temper is interchangeable with another.

  • Inspection and batch evidence

Specify dimensional checks and any material or internal-quality examination required by the design owner. Agree document traceability to the actual lot and the approval process for first articles.

Questions that change the quotation

Tooling and repeat supply
Confirm die ownership, maintenance, revision control and which tooling costs recur. Ask how future drawing changes are assessed.
Acceptance responsibility
Identify who accepts the forging and who accepts the finished machined part. Specify how an out-of-scope process change is reviewed.
Quotation boundary
Separate stock preparation, tooling, forging, specified heat treatment, machining, testing and packing. Compare only offers covering the same supplied state.
